Day 59: Drawing a depressed goat with Sarah Courtauld

Sarah is a comedy writer, performer, and award-winning author of children's books. In 2012 she won the Funny Women Comedy Writing Award and the Bafta/Rocliffe New Writing Forum, and is a past graduate of the Royal Court Young Writers Programme.
Sarah's debut book for 7-9 year olds sold at the end of 2013 to Venetia Gosling at Macmillan, in a deal for two books in a planned series. Buckle and Squash and the Monstrous Moat Dragon was published in July 2014 and follows two sisters through a fairytale world. In October 2014 it won the inaugural Sainsbury's Children's Book Award in the "fiction for age 5-9 years" category. The second book is planned for release this year.
In addition to other original television projects, Sarah is working on an original sitcom based on her experiences of working in publishing. She has also had an original comedy series idea optioned by Objective Productions. She is also working with Citrus TV on NIT WIT, a new children's television comedy. Sarah has recently completed a series of books for Hodder, adapting the Canadian children's TV series, Almost Naked Animals, into book form.
For the past six years Sarah has worked as a freelance writer for Usborne Publishing. She has written more than twenty children's books for Usborne, on all sorts of subjects, including pirates, King Arthur, art and fairy tales. She also works as an illustrator, performs stand-up, and is a member of the improv team, The Wilmington Players. Sarah's work as an author is represented by Catherine Clarke at Felicity Bryan.
